From Osage Beach, MO - The Littlest Fireman....
It all began when Hospice Care Consultant Tony Ward decided to go to Chili’s with his wife in April 2008. A pleasant waitress approached Tony and his wife and he struck up a conversation asking her if she and her family lived in Osage Beach. Her name was Amanda, and she told him they were from Lake Ozarks and getting ready to take her son on a trip to Disney World for the “Make A Wish” foundation. When she returned to Tony’s table, he asked if it was ok to inquire about her son’s diagnosis. Amanda replied describing that her son had a rare form of brain stem cancer, and that it was very aggressive. His name was Colton, and he was only 3 years old....click here to read more.
From Macon, MO - Together Again....
DeAnn Pope’s best friend worked at a convenience store in Kirksville, where one day in August of 2009 she noticed the Hospice Compassus badge on one of her regular gas customers. She struck up a conversation with the Hospice Compassus nurse, talking about her best friend whose Mom was just diagnosed with end-stage lung cancer with mets and whose father was in a hospital in St. Louis on a ventilator and taking dialysis, unaware of his wife’s diagnosis. On 6/17/09, David Corral was admitted for services to Hospice Compassus-Casa Grande. After being diagnosed with cancer of the maxillary sinus in November of 2007, he had Chemotherapy, Radiation and Surgical Resection. After Recurrence of the disease, David opted for hospice services. When Ron Hawley, social worker for RTA Hospice in Sedona, met the 86-year-old patient assigned to him, he could not help but wonder where they had met before. Ron knew immediately that there was a connection and was determined to get to the bottom of it.
